Alexandria’s Apartment will air on C-Span Friday’s at 8pm eastern.

C-Span announced the show would be first of several designed to attract a younger, “hipper” crowd to the network’s usual meat-and-potatoes political programming.
The first run of programs are reported to follow the Congresswoman’s move to Washington, from setting up her apartment to preparing meals and cleaning around a busy schedule of press conferences and television appearances. Along the way, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez appears in special segments to offer tips to young people about the basics and finances of homemaking.
The Congresswoman spoke with The Brown Valley Observer and says she is excited for the opportunities the show creates.
“I knew when I got elected that I would be responsible for being a positive role model for my generation and younger generations of strong women out there, so it’s important to me that they can be all that they can be. A woman today should be self-sufficient. She should know how to feed herself well, to care for herself well, to be alert and ready for the world around her. I want to be a part of that, to teach them how to cook and clean and look after a household.”
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez believes a lot of young women aren’t prepared for the real world coming out of high school and even college. She says she understands how some young people might find setting up a household intimidating.
“There are so many things I’ve learned since moving to Washington, and I want to share it all. For example, pouring cooking oil over a chicken doesn’t actually cook the chicken, like the name indicates it will.
“Big lesson,” she laughed. “Wasted a lot of chicken and a lot of oil.”
“And yes, you actually can Google the directions for Minute Rice, I found that out! I couldn’t figure out at first what was happening because I was cooking it for the full minute, but it was still coming out really crunchy, you know?
“Women, it’s not embarrassing. If you don’t know something, you can just Google it. No one needs to know except you and the NSA.”
On the premiere episode, the Congresswoman will be tackling how to cook a Michelina’s salisbury steak with mashed potatoes entree and how to shine leather footwear without any boot polish, brush, or a rag.
Alexandria’s Apartment will air on C-Span on Friday nights at 8pm eastern, beginning in April.
