Remember Boner?

REMEMBER BONER
Boner, seen here with Mike (Kirk Cameron) on ABC’s Growing Pains.

Did you know?

-In modern usage, the word “boner” usually refers to a foolish or clownish error, which is why the Growing Pains character’s name was thought to be funny.
Growing Pains writers toyed with calling the character “Chubby”, and “Red Rocket”, and “Ol’ Vein Neck” before settling on “Boner”.
-In the television show, Boner’s middle name was “Throbbing”.
-Elton John and Anthony Kiedis are among a long list of celebrities who say they were inspired by Boner.
-Despite their on-air friendship, show producers indicated that Boner made star Kirk Cameron “a little uncomfortable”.
-While Boner only officially appeared in 25 episodes of Growing Pains, that kid who played Ben reportedly brought Boner onto the set on several other occasions.
-After Growing Pains concluded, Boner had his name legally changed to Andrew and kept himself mostly secluded from the public spotlight.
-Nearly 30 years later, housewives who regularly enjoyed Boner on Tuesday nights in the 1980s are lucky to see Boner at all these days, although the show does occasionally appear in syndication.
